Ghanaian Emos Korblah, offers himself an “elephant”

It is May 6, 2021, the weather was not kind to the city of 7 hills still called Yaounde, but the rain did not get the better of the lovers of the little white ball. Nji Presley’s comeback, winner of the Cameroon International Golf Open the previous year, did nothing, the Ghanaian Emos Korblah, remained unperturbed and stronger than the 19 other golfers engaged in the last round of the Cameroon Open. The 57-year-old right-hander had just won the 8th edition of the competition held from April 30 to May 6, 2017 at the Yaounde Golf Club. It was his second victory in the land of the indomitable people. The first victory was in 2012.

So, when Golfica learnt that Emos Korblah’s victory at the last Coast Open seemed to surprise many, as his compatriot Vincent Torgah was the most expected, the whole editorial staff smiled.

Born on January 22, 1963, the colossus from the country of Nkwame N’krumah is a regular on the Ivorian greens where he has already made a few appearances less brilliant than the last one in 1997 (10th), 1998 (35th), 1999 (39th).

When Emos Korblah starts at the President Golf Club of Yamoussoukro, on April 21, 2021 during the 21st Open de Côte d’Ivoire de Golf which will last until Saturday April 24, it is a regular of the French-speaking African greens who deploys his swings.

Emos Korblah won this competition which gathered 74 professional golfers and 74 amateurs. The Ghanaian champion outclassed the Zambian Sydney Wemba in a sensational final to win with 271 points-17.

It must be said that the final battle was very close. Emos Korblah and Sydney Wemba were tied until the last hole with a score of -17, but it took a play-off hole to separate them.

Emos Korblah thus succeeds Zambian Madalisto Muthlya, winner of the 2019 edition. He pockets the Félix Houphouët-Boigny trophy and a big reward of 5 million 700 FCFA.

The first Ivorian, Romaric Djezou finished in 18th place with 286(-2).
